Prayer Service for Hope and Perseverance, Peace, and Justice in Ukraine

His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk led a Prayer Service for Hope and Perseverance, Peace, and Justice in Ukraine with Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of the United States: Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys Gudziak, Bishop Venedykt Aleksiychuk, Bishop Paul Chomnycky and Bishop Bohdan Danylo. They commemorated the solemn third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Following the service, there was a reception and an opportunity to have met Prayer Service for Hope and Perseverance, Peace, and Justice in Ukraine

    CUCS Welcomes Ukrainian Junior Fellows at 2025 Open House

      The Bishop Basil H. Losten Center for Ukrainian Church Studies had an “Open House”  on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 from 5-6:30 PM EST at the Happel Room in Caldwell Hall. It featured an evening of fellowship and explanation of exciting events to come. We welcomed our new junior fellows from Ukraine–we are working with the  Archeparchy CUCS Welcomes Ukrainian Junior Fellows at 2025 Open House

    Catholic University Honors Bishop Basil H. Losten with Memorial Panel and Liturgy

    Our benefactor and our namesake +Bishop Basil H. Losten entered into eternity on September 15, 2024. We remembered +Bishop Basil H. Losten, on November 14, 2024, at 4:00 PM EST with an academic panel discussion in Hannan Hall (room 108), at The Catholic University of America.  Featured speakers were: CUA President Dr. Peter K.     Fr. Morozowich Contributes to Rome Conference on Metropolitan Rutsky and Liturgical Reform

    International Conference “Reforming after Trent: the Kyivan Metropolitan Yosyf Veliamyn-Rutsky (1613–1637)” took place on October 16-17, 2024 in Rome, Italy. The Bishop Basil H. Losten Center for Ukrainian Church Studies was a co-sponsor of this event.  Father Mark made welcome remarks, was a moderator for a panel,  and presented his paper titled:  “Metropolitan Yosyf Veliamyn-Rutsky Fr. Morozowich Contributes to Rome Conference on Metropolitan Rutsky and Liturgical Reform

    Fr. Morozowich Teaches Course on Ukraine’s Religious and Historical Journey

    Father Mark taught a course called “Ukraine: History, Liturgy and Churches Then and Now” which combined history, theology, and liturgy when addressing Ukraine. His introductory course was offered simultaneously at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and provided  the learner with the fundamentals for understanding Ukraine in light of its religious and historical identity.     Fr. Morozowich Presents on Liturgical Exchange at Rome Ecumenical Conference

     Very Rev. Mitred Archpriest Dr. Mark Morozowich delivered a paper titled “Liturgical Exchange and Influence Between the Eastern Catholic Churches and Orthodox Churches in the USA” at a second conference in Rome, immediately following the St. Josaphat Conference dealing with ecumenism.  This conference was titled “Eastern Catholics’ Ecumenical Vision in Dialogue with the Orthodox” and included many well-known voices from Fr. Morozowich Presents on Liturgical Exchange at Rome Ecumenical Conference

    Identity and Cult: Theological, Cultural, and Historical Dimensions of Josaphat Kuntsevych

    The Bishop Basil H. Losten Center for Ukrainian Church Studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine, and the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, Italy  sponsored a two-day scholarly conference on St. Josaphat on November 13-14, 2023. This international scholarly conference marked the 400th anniversary of Saint Josaphat Kuntsevych, entitled “Identity and Cult: Theological, Cultural and Historical Dimensions of Josaphat Kuntsevych.” It was under the patronage of the Head of Identity and Cult: Theological, Cultural, and Historical Dimensions of Josaphat Kuntsevych

    Sacred Land: Music and Poems of Resilience From Ukraine

    On June 26, 2023, The Bishop Basil H. Losten Center for Ukrainian Church Studies co-sponsored an event called “Sacred Land: Music and Poems of Resilience From Ukraine.” This was a Ukrainian cultural evening which showcased Ukraine’s rich history through a celebration of centuries of choral music, poetry, and Ukraine’s natural beauty.     Father Mark Morozowich elevated to the Rank of Mitred Protopresbyter

    On May 10, 2023 there was a ceremony conferring the ecclesiastical honor and dignity of Mitred Archpriest upon the Very Reverend Doctor Mark Myron Morozowich during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the Ukrainian National Shrine of the Holy Family, 4250 Harewood Road NE, Washington, DC 20017.
