ISEC Installs First Endowed Chair with Prof. Peter Galadza in Ukrainian Church Studies

On September 28, 2022, the first chair and professorship within the Institute for the Study of Eastern Christianity was formally installed. The Ukrainian Catholic liturgical scholar Very Rev.     Hearing the Scriptures: Liturgical Exegesis of the Old Testament in Byzantine Orthodox Hymnography

    On April 12, 2022, ISEC hosted Fr. Eugen Pentiuc of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology who engaged doctoral students from both Biblical and Liturgical Studies in discussing his new book, Hearing the Scriptures: Liturgical Exegesis of the Old Testament in Byzantine Orthodox Hymnography, published by Oxford University Press (2021).     “Christian Law in Seventh-to-Eighth-Century Fars (modern day Iran): Ishoʿbokht and Shemʿon of Rev Ardashir”

    On April 12, 2022, Prof. Emanuel Fiano (Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks, Fordham University) offered a lecture which tackled such topics as the distinction between human and divine law, and whether God gave Christians any secular precepts—contained at the outset of the Legal Codes produced by two seventh-to-eighth-century authors, Shemʿon and Ishoʿbokht of Rev Ardashir, both East-Syriac “Christian Law in Seventh-to-Eighth-Century Fars (modern day Iran): Ishoʿbokht and Shemʿon of Rev Ardashir”
