    “Speaking with Mary: St. Romanos, a Voice, and the Virgin” 

    On March 22, 2019, ISEC hosted Thomas Arenzen, who lectured on “Speaking with Mary: St. Romanos, a Voice, and the Virgin.” Most Christians who are devoted to the Virgin Mary today share the idea that she speaks on behalf of humans as an intercessor. In the first Christian centuries, however, she largely appeared as a “Speaking with Mary: St. Romanos, a Voice, and the Virgin”

    “Encountering the Uncreated in the Greek Monastic Tradition”

    On February 22, 2019, ISEC hosted Fr. Chrysostomos Koutloumousianos, who lectured on “Encountering the Uncreated in the Greek Monastic Tradition.” Phenomenological, theological, and empirical observations centered on the highest and most profound experience, which is the encounter with God: its meaning, presuppositions, and effects, as evidenced in the writings of the Greek monastic world from “Encountering the Uncreated in the Greek Monastic Tradition”

    “The Byzantine Text of the Greek Gospels”

    On November 12, 2018, ISEC hosted Georgi Parpulov, who lectured on “The Byzantine Text of the Greek Gospels.” This lecture surveyed the medieval history of the continuous (as opposed to lectionary) text of the Greek Gospels, and focused on a homogeneous and large group of manuscripts called “Revised Koine,” “Kr,” or “Family 35,” examining the “The Byzantine Text of the Greek Gospels”
